On International Mother Language Day, which is commemorated on February 21, an online dictation in the Crimean Tatar language will be held. It will be dedicated to Kremlin political prisoners Nariman Dzhelyal and the Akhtemov brothers.

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, announced it on Facebook.

According to him, the language rights of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine are guaranteed by the Law “On Indigenous Peoples” adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on July 1, 2021.

"One of the languages of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, which is under serious threat of extinction, is Crimean Tatar. To support it and demonstrate national and international unity in defence of the indigenous people who are being repressed by the Russian occupation authorities, an online dictation in the Crimean Tatar language is traditionally held", - Kremin wrote.

Dictation can be written by anyone, regardless of age, nationality, country of residence, and level of language proficiency.

"Let us remember that language is a weapon. It is the strongest tool for preserving and developing the material and spiritual heritage of every nation. Therefore, protecting the languages of indigenous peoples and further establishing the Ukrainian language as the state language is our common task", - he said.
