The Kherson City Court has arrested five more vessels that violated the order of entry and exit to the occupied Crimea.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

In total, 59 violating vessels have been arrested since 2014.

It is noted that since July 2014, Ukraine has officially ceased to operate all ports in the occupied Crimea, the harbors of the peninsula are closed to international shipping. However, some foreign vessels, in violation of the law, enter the Crimea. In this regard, criminal proceedings are under investigation for violations of the order of entry into and exit from the temporarily occupied territory.

"The entry of ships under a foreign flag into the closed seaports of the temporarily occupied peninsula, law enforcement agencies describe as actions that undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and violate national law, which entails criminal liability of shipowners, operators and ship captains", - was informed in a statement.

What is known

  • After the Russian occupation of Crimea, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine issued an order "On the closure of seaports" (June 16, 2014), which prohibited access to the seaports of Kerch, Sevastopol, Feodosia, Yalta and Yevpatoria. It has been stated that shipowners and ship captains who violate the ban will face severe sanctions, including fines and imprisonment.
