The wall of one of the buildings of the Khan's Palace was damaged by the occupiers during the "restoration" due to allegedly incorrect data in the project. It caused a large crack in the wall.

The “head” of the occupation directorate for maintenance and development of cultural institutions of Crimea, Ilya Alimchev, announced this to the occupation news agency “Kryminform”.

"This is the secular building of the palace. The wall that cracked - is newly renovated. This is a mistake in the project, which shows that this building stands on the foundation and the fact that when workers began to dig, it was found that these walls did not have it. Nothing terrible happened. Serious damage was not caused. Now we are studying everything constructively, and we will fix it”, - he said.

By the end of 2021, the occupiers completed 30% of the restoration and reconstruction of the objects of the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisaray.

The occupiers have completed the illegal reconstruction of 3 out of 16 objects: the tombs of Dyurbe Dilyara-Bikech, Northern Dyurbe and South Dyurbe.

Repairs are underway at eight more facilities: the count's (secular) building, the khan's kitchen, the stable, the library building, the falcon tower, the embankment with three bridges, the tomb rotunda, and the Sary Guzel baths.

What is known

  • The Khan's Palace in Bakhchisaray is the only example of Crimean Tatar palace architecture in the world, a family heirloom of the Giray dynasty. The oldest buildings of the palace complex, dating back to 1532, are the Great Khan's Mosque (Khan Jami) and the Sari-Guzel baths. Khan Jami has lost its valuable historical appearance forever due to the destructive work of the occupiers under the guise of "restoration" in the Khan's palace.
  • In 2021, the occupiers resumed construction on the territory of the medieval palace of Kalga Sultan.
