The President of Poland awarded state orders to the leaders of the Crimean Tatar people

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda awarded high state awards to the leaders of the Crimean Tatar people: the national leader of the Crimean Tatar people, the People's Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev, the Deputy Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov, a member of the Mejlis, editor of the newspaper "Avdet" Shevket Kaibullayev, and a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement, a political prisoner of the Soviet-era Sinaver Kadyrov.

The chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, wrote about it on Facebook.

According to him, the award decree was signed on December 3, 2021.

Andrzej Duda awarded Mustafa Dzhemilev the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. This order is the highest award for outstanding merits in strengthening international cooperation and the development of relations between nations.

The president awarded Ilmi Umerov the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

Shevket Kaibullayev and Sinaver Kadyrov were awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

Refat Chubarov congratulated his comrades. He also thanked the President of Poland for the high appreciation of human rights activities and the fight against the totalitarian regime of the USSR.

  • Polish human rights activist, Petro Khlebovych, said that the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, MP Mustafa Dzhemilev, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022 by Vice Speaker of the Lower Chamber of the Polish Parliament (Sejm) Małgorzata Gosiewska.
