Johnson and Macron agreed to work together on new sanctions against Russia

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson and the President of France Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation around Ukraine by telephone and agreed to work together on new sanctions against Russia.

This was reported in the press service of the Prime Minister of Britain.

Johnson told Macron about his visit to Kyiv last week. Leaders agreed that finding a diplomatic solution to the current tensions should remain a priority.

"Prime Minister and President Macron have stressed the need for NATO to unite in the face of Russian aggression. They agreed to continue working together to develop a package of sanctions that will take effect immediately if Russia continues to invade Ukraine", - was informed in the statement.

The leaders also discussed their work to strengthen NATO's eastern flank to ensure full protection of Allies from Russia's malicious actions, wherever and however they occur.

What is known

  • On February 2, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. French President Emmanuel Macron is also expected to visit Kyiv next week, on February 8.
