Ukraine plans to convene a debate in February on the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine.

This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko at an online briefing, was reported Ukrinform.

"Ukraine does not stop actively working to strengthen the role of the UN in neutralizing Russian threats. We plan to convene a debate of the UN General Assembly in February to discuss the situation in the temporarily occupied territories with the participation of a wide range of states", - Nikolenko said.

He also reminded that on the basis of such discussions, the General Assembly annually adopts two important resolutions - on the protection of human rights in the temporarily occupied Crimea and on the militarization of the Crimean Peninsula and parts of the Black and Azov Seas.

What is known

The discussion clearly demonstrated the positions and approaches of members of the international community and the UN leadership on the most serious security crisis in Europe created by Russia's temporary occupation of Crimea and its armed aggression in eastern Ukraine.
