British PM to visit Ukraine before talks with Putin

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, plans to visit Ukraine next week and hold crisis talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During his visit to Kyiv and Moscow, Johnson hopes to accelerate diplomatic efforts to deter Russian aggression.
The Guardian reports.
“The prime minister is determined to accelerate diplomatic efforts and ramp up deterrence to avoid bloodshed in Europe. He will reiterate the need for Russia to step back and engage diplomatically when he speaks to president Putin this week”, - a Downing Street spokesperson said.
On January 30, London is expected to announce tougher sanctions against Russia if it decides to invade Ukraine.

- Dmytro Snegiryov, a co-chair of the Prava Sprava public initiative, told Suspilne that the United Kingdom is taking great practical action to support Ukraine. On January 24, Britain began actively evacuating some embassy staff in Kyiv due to threats of escalating Russian aggression in Ukraine. According to the expert, this should be considered as an element of military and political pressure on Russia.
