The Russian Federation continues to detain Ukrainian citizens in occupied Crimea and does not provide official information to the Ukrainian authorities. Thus, in the town of Shcholkine on the Black Sea coast, the occupying border guards detained two fishers from Ukraine, about which the Ukrainian side was not informed.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmila Denisova, announced it on Telegram.

On January 25, 2022, Ruslan Romanyuta and Ivan Gerasimenko went to the Black Sea on a fishing vessel "Volga" from the city of Genichesk, Kherson region, and did not return home.

According to preliminary data, the vessel's engine failed, and it was driven to the town of Shcholkine in occupied Crimea, where the occupying border guards detained the men.

According to this fact, the State Unitary Enterprise of the National Police in the Kherson region initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 146-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (enforced disappearance).

"The detention of Ukrainian fishermen by the occupying country contradicts all international law. I appeal to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatiana Moskalkova, to take measures to release illegally detained citizens of Ukraine", - Denisova wrote.

The ombudswoman also called on representatives of international human rights organizations to monitor the situation regarding the detention of Ukrainian citizens by the Russian occupiers and to prevent violations of their fundamental rights and freedom.
