Erdogan reiterated the proposal to organize a meeting between Zelensky and Putin in the country
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his proposal to host a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Volodymyr Putin in Turkiye to discuss ongoing tensions.
The Turkish agency Anadolu reports.
Erdogan stressed that he wants tensions between Russia and Ukraine to be resolved before they turn into a new crisis.
"I repeat - we are ready to provide the best possible support for this. I have passed these messages to Presidents Putin and Zelensky, and I will continue to do so. For example, if the two leaders meet in our country - it could help restore peace", - the President of Turkiye said.
He expressed hope that Russia would not attack and occupy Ukraine.
"Such a step cannot be rational for Russia and the region in general. We want peace in our region. We want stability. The region has already suffered a lot from instability, and it has had a very negative impact on us", - Erdogan said.
He added that Turkiye strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In addition, the Turkish leader announced that he had invited Putin to visit Ankara, but the date is yet to be set.
