The occupied Crimea and Syria have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism and are "working on the possibility of organizing indirect flights from Damascus to Simferopol".

The occupying chairman of the Crimea Sergey Aksonov reported about it on January 18, was reported by Kriminform.

The agreement in the field of tourism has been signed. Of course, it is a framework, as there is no logistics: we do not have direct flights to Damascus - Simferopol, - he said. We are ready to discuss these proposals. There is an understanding of how to do it.

Aksonov clarified that by February 15 "the joint action plan will be fully updated".

What is known

  • A delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) led by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade illegally arrived in the occupied Crimea on 17 January.
  • A comprehensive agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the occupied Crimea and Syria was signed in late August 2019.
