The European Union strongly condemns the cyber attack on Ukraine that hit government websites on 14 January.

The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell made the corresponding statement on behalf of the EU on January 14, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"This cyber attack on the Ukrainian government's websites is unacceptable. Such actions are aimed at destabilizing Ukraine and spreading disinformation. It may lead to further escalation of the already tense situation", - he said.

Borrel stated that Ukraine "responded quickly and decisively to the attacks due to its increased cyber resilience".

"The European Union and its Member States are in contact with Ukraine and are ready to provide additional technical assistance to eliminate this attack and further support against any destabilizing actions, in particular by further enhancing its resilience to hybrid and cyber threats. We reaffirm our unconditional support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders", - he stressed.
