At the end of 2021, the 14th illegal conscription campaign ended in occupied Crimea. The number of Crimeans drafted into the army of the occupying state has reached 34 thousand people.

The head of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, Igor Ponochevny, reported it.

"At the end of last year, the 14th illegal conscription campaign ended in occupied Crimea. Since 2015, the occupiers have called up about 34,000 Crimean citizens to the Russian Armed Forces", - the prosecutor's office wrote on Facebook.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office, ten "military commissars" were suspected of committing a war crime. Two "military commissars" will be tried in absentia for violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They face from 8 to 12 years in prison.

"It is safe to say that the illegal conscription of Crimean citizens into the Russian Armed Forces provokes changes in the demographic composition of the population of the peninsula. Young people who do not want to serve in the army of the occupying state are forced to leave the peninsula and go to mainland Ukraine. Accordingly, their place is taken by the citizens of the Russian Federation, who are colonizing the peninsula in this way", - Ponochovny stressed.

According to the office, together with the Crimean Human Rights Group, two informational messages were sent to the Prosecutor's Office of the International Criminal Court. The reports contain evidence of the involvement of officials of the occupying state and its occupation administration in the organization and conduct of illegal conscription campaigns in occupied Crimea.
