The United States stands ready to protect its allies on the eastern flank amid a Russian troop buildup along the border with Ukraine.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke about this in a telephone conversation with Poland's National Security Bureau Chief Pawel Solokh and Head of the International Policy Bureau Jakub Kumokh, the White House said.

"They exchanged views on increasing Russia's military troops near the border with Ukraine and reaffirmed the importance of unity in diplomatic and deterrence efforts. Sullivan reaffirmed US support for Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and stressed the United States' readiness to support our allies on the eastern flank defending their countries", - the White House said in a statement.
