US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the United States had warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of its readiness to impose "unprecedented sanctions" against Russia if it invades Ukraine. According to the division of responsibilities in the current administration, the vice president does not comment on foreign policy issues. This is her first statement about Russia's threat to Ukraine.

She said this in an interview with CBS News.

"We are very clear that Russia should not invade the sovereignty of Ukraine, that we must stand up – and we are standing up – for its territorial integrity. We are working with our allies in that regard, and we've been very clear that we are prepared to issue sanctions like you've not seen before", - Kamala Harris said.

Harris declined to talk about specific sanctions but said the U.S. is having direct conversations with Russia.

"I repeat, we are talking about unprecedented sanctions we have not imposed before", - Harris said.
