Russia's Supreme Court has upheld in absentia a sentence handed down in absentia to businessman Lenur Islamov, who received 18 years in a maximum security prison "for organizing the 2015 energy blockade of Crimea and creating an illegal armed group".

The lawyer Nikolay Polozov told about it, reports "Interfax".

"The sentence and the appeal decision were upheld”, - Polozov said.

According to him, Islamov's defense now intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

"Next is the European Court of Human Rights", - the lawyer stressed.
