The G7 countries promise Russia "serious costs" in the event of its invasion of Ukraine - Bloomberg
The G7 member states are united in their position on the "serious costs" that Russian President Vladimir Putin will face if Russian troops invade Ukraine.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its own sources.
It is noted that Moscow's deployment of its soldiers and military equipment on the border with Ukraine "raised fears of war to the forefront of the agenda of the" meeting of foreign ministers of the "Big Seven" in Liverpool.
According to a spokesman for the US State Department, who wished to remain anonymous, the negotiators discussed measures that, if necessary, can be "implemented very quickly" in response to the Kremlin's escalation.
Another US official summed up that "Putin will face colossal consequences if he invades Ukraine". He also expressed confidence that a wide group of countries, including the G7 member states, would "join in implementing the costs under this scenario".
A Reuters spokesman with the US State Department described the talks as "intense" and he said believed the de-escalation of tensions with Russia could still be achieved through diplomacy.
