The UN General Assembly supported a draft resolution on the militarization of the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as parts of the Black and Azov Seas.

"The results of the vote are as follows: 62 in favour, 22 against, 55 abstentions. Draft resolution A / 76 / L.22 is adopted", - was informed by Abdullah Shahid, head of the UN General Assembly.

It is noted that the resolution "The problem of the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black and Azov Seas" was presented today at the General Assembly by the Ambassador of Ukraine Serhiy Kyslytsia.

After his speech, the representatives of Syria and Russia took the floor, urging them not to vote for the resolution or to vote against it.

The resolution said that the UN General Assembly "expresses serious concern over the progressive militarization of Crimea by the Russian Federation as an occupying power and expresses concern at the ongoing destabilization of the situation in Crimea due to Russia's supply of modern weapons and weapons systems", "nuclear weapons, weapons and ammunition, and the deployment of troops to Ukraine, and urges the Russian Federation to cease such activities immediately".

Also this year, the key innovations of the resolution were reflected in the title of the resolution:

  • the status of Crimea as a temporarily occupied peninsula;
  • support for cooperation in the Crimean platform;
  • emphasis on Russia's responsibility to respect the rights of Crimean Tatars as the indigenous people of Crimea;
  • the demand to overturn the sentences handed down in absentia against the leaders of the Crimean Tatar people and the Crimean Tatars.

In addition, the document, which is adopted annually since 2018, is supplemented, in particular, by a reference to the international Crimean platform and its declaration.
