Another occupation judge will be tried in absentia for persecuting activists

The head of the occupying Dzhankoi district court in Crimea faces up to 15 years in prison on charges of treason.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

It is noted that after the Russian occupation of Crimea in 2014, the accused, having sworn allegiance to the people of Ukraine, sided with the occupiers and illegally held the position of chairman of the Dzhankoi District Court of the Republic of Crimea.

It is also noted that while in this position, the "judge" -collaborator made illegal decisions to find five Crimean Tatars guilty of allegedly violating the established order of organizing or holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, march or picket under Part 5 of Art. 20.2 of the Administrative Code.

"These are the events of May 3, 2014, when the occupation authorities illegally banned the entry into the Crimea of ​​the former Speaker of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev. Then, in protest and opposing the occupation, the Crimean people blocked the road on several sections of the Simferopol-Sevastopol, Kherson-Dzhankoi-Feodosia-Kerch, Simferopol-Feodosia-Kerch, etc. highways", - was informed in the statement reads.

It is also known that the occupation judge is accused of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of 12 to 15 years.

What is known

  • The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol have launched criminal proceedings on the facts of illegal imprisonment of Crimean Tatar activists on the territory of the occupied peninsula.
  • In the order of special pre-trial investigation the indictment was released concerning the occupying judge under part 1 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason).
  • The Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol announced a change in the previously reported suspicion of a "judge of the Bakhchisaray District Court" committing a criminal offense for illegally persecuting activists of the Crimean Tatar national movement (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code).
