On the administrative border with occupied Crimea, a militant, who assisted Russian troops in capturing the peninsula, and has four medals and documents signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, was detained at the Kalanchak checkpoint.

It was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The 64-year-old man is a member of the so-called organization "Union of Veterans of the Free Regiment of the People's Militia of the Republic of Crimea".

He tried to cross into Ukrainian-controlled territory through the Kalanchak checkpoint but was exposed because of awards from the occupiers he took with him. It is about four Russian medals with accompanying documents signed by Putin: For services to the homeland, For the protection of Crimea, Five years of the Crimean Spring, and Crimean Spring, received in 2014 - 2018.

During the inspection, it was found out that in 2014 the detainee took an active part in the activities of illegal armed groups on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

"On the fact of detection of signs of a criminal offence provided by Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Creation of paramilitary or armed formations not provided by law", border guards reported representatives of the National Police and handed over the "militant" to law enforcement officers", - the statement said.
