As part of the oral history project "Crimea. Occupation", video collections of memories of the occupation of the peninsula were presented in Kyiv.

This was reported by the correspondent of the Suspilne Crimea.

It is noted that the project contains 21 interviews with text transcription. A video collection will be available on the website of the Archive of Oral History of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.

The chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev, the former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, the former prime minister and other high-ranking officials testified for the project. As well as the Crimean Tatars, who were persecuted by the occupiers. The fact of the recollected memories will be used in the future, in particular, as evidence in the courts, as well as for history and future generations, he explained.

The director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Anton Drobovych, said that the facts of the recollected memories will be used in the future, in particular, as evidence in court, as well as for history and future generations.

"And not only as evidence in future courts, but, what is important for us, in the horizon of eternity. When in 50 or 100 years people want to study this period, they will have access not only archival materials, international documents, court decisions, but also real stories of real people, what we now, for example, miss very much about the Ukrainian revolution of 1917 -1921, the Second World War - the human dimension of the historical process", - Drobovych said.

"It is very important for us, because historical memory and the right to know the truth about the events during the armed conflict, occupation - is one of the integral elements of transitional justice. And so this track and these memories that we can see here today , and this is just the beginning, are very important, because time goes by, and the fact that time goes by should not affect the policy of the state or the position of the international community, as well as the thoughts, memories and emotions of our citizens", - representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych said.

The chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov stated that the events that took place in Crimea should become a science.

"What happened in Crimea should be a science, but these events have not become a science. I will say things that may be controversially perceived in Ukrainian society. The Ukrainian state for all these years of independence until 2014, I am now saying in Crimean dimension, did not protect its sovereignty, and moreover, if it did not contribute, it did not deny many of its own citizens to destroy this sovereignty", - Chubarov said.
