The Crimean Tatar ornament Ornek was included in the preliminary list of UNESCO heritage for possible inclusion in the list of ICH (intangible cultural heritage) of mankind.

This statement was made by the public organization "Alem" on July 15.

According to the official UNESCO website, the Crimean Tatar ornament was nominated by Ukraine (number 1601).

Esma Adzhieva, Chairman of the Board of the public organization Alem , told Public Crimea that this is the first experience in the history of independence of Ukraine when the organization has joined the Crimean Tatar element, and she hopes that it will be included in UNESCO.

It is noted that a meeting on this issue should be held in 2021.

The development of the nomination dossier "Ornek - Crimean Tatar ornament" and submission to the list of ICH(intangible cultural heritage)  was initiated by the public organization "Alem", which cooperated with Mamut Churlu and Ornek carriers, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

According to Adzhieva, today there are more than 40 people involved in the process of preparing the nomination dossier - they are masters of applied arts who live on the mainland of Ukraine and in occupied Crimea. The Alem team itself collects and processes information.

The partners were the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
