First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar stated that the closure of the North Crimean Canal does not make any artificial changes to the climate of occupied Crimea, but on the contrary, brings the peninsula to its natural state.

She said this in an interview with "Fleet 2017" on July 3.

According to her, from the point of view of international law, Ukraine's position is impeccable regarding the "international lawsuits" with which the occupiers are trying to intimidate Ukraine.

Because providing the inhabitants of the occupied territories with water is the full responsibility of the occupying state.

"There is enough water in Crimea for the needs of the population. Problems with water arise amid the active militarization of the peninsula, the development of non-inherent industries. The closure of the North Crimean Canal does not make any artificial changes to the climate of Crimea, on the contrary, it brings the peninsula to its natural state", - Dzheppar said.

She also added that the additional water from the canal provides opportunities to develop those areas of the economy, especially agriculture, which would not have taken place there without artificial support, such as rice cultivation. But the state can restore the cultivation of such crops only after the de-occupation of Crimea.

"However, Moscow's policy, which is aimed at developing the military industry and military infrastructure of the peninsula, a sharp increase in the number of troops, the resettlement of hundreds of thousands of Russian citizens in Crimea to purposefully change its demographic situation and strengthen support for the occupation, along with irresponsible drilling of aquifers can lead and, perhaps, already leads to ecological imbalance", - the first deputy minister noted.
