In Copenhagen, unknown individuals looted a monument to Taras Shevchenko, painting it the colours of the Russian flag.

This is stated in the message of the Embassy of Ukraine in Denmark on its Facebook page.

"Probably on the night of Monday, June 21, 2021, on the eve of the Denmark-Russia football match, a monument to the Ukrainian genius Taras Shevchenko was looted in Copenhagen. The Great Kobzar was painted in the Russian tricolour, and on the pedestal of the sculpture you could see long-known elements of Russian propaganda, "the statement reads.

The embassy also condemned the act of vandalism, calling it an act of provocation against Ukraine.

"This disgraceful case once again demonstrates to the civilized world that Russian aggression against Ukraine is real. There is no "civil" war in Ukraine, but there are only criminal actions of the Kremlin, which persecute everything sacred to every Ukrainian in any part of the world", - was announced by the embassy.

"We appeal to the Danish law enforcement agencies to launch an immediate investigation and punish the perpetrators", - was informed by the embassy.
