The Minister of Defense Procurement of the United Kingdom Jeremy Quinn and the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Myronyuk signed a Memorandum on the implementation of maritime partnership projects between the industry consortium of the United Kingdom and the Ukrainian Navy.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

It is noted that the document was signed in Odessa aboard the British missile destroyer HMS Defender.

The memorandum provides for the joint design and construction of warships in Ukraine and the United Kingdom, as well as the construction of two bases of the Ukrainian Navy.

"This is another step in the development of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom to strengthen the Ukrainian fleet, which faces constant danger in the Black and Azov Seas", - was informed in the statement.

What is known

  • On June 18, two NATO ships entered the port of Odesa - a destroyer of the British Navy and an air defence frigate of the Netherlands Navy.
  • On June 14, these ships entered the Black Sea and joined an American ship that had arrived the previous day. The ships are expected to take part in the annual Sea Breeze manoeuvres.
  • Russia has always strongly opposed visits to the Black Sea by ships from non-Black Sea countries, especially from NATO member states. This attitude has intensified sharply since 2014 when Russia occupied Ukrainian Crimea.
