Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered to increase the grouping of Russian troops in occupied Crimea. The military is said to be helping flood victims.

So, now about 21 thousand people are involved by the Ministry of Defense of Russia in the alleged rendering of help to the population of the occupied Crimea which suffered because of a flood

"On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Defense Minister General Sergei Shoigu has instructed to increase the group involved in assisting residents of the Republic of Crimea affected by the emergency caused by prolonged rainfall", - was informed in the statement.

What is known

  • In the occupied Crimea, 1,773 people, including 321 children, were evacuated from the flood zone caused by heavy rainfall in eastern Crimea and Greater Yalta.
  • On June 18, the Vospadnaya River overflowed its banks after six months of monthly rainfall in occupied Yalta. The authorities have imposed a state of emergency. The city temporarily cut off the central streets and the 10th district from the light due to the flood.
  • As a result of heavy rains on June 17, Kerch flooded villages in the east of the occupied semi-island and the Belogorsky district. In Kerch, the city hospital and residential buildings were flooded. People are being evacuated. An emergency has been declared.
