The European Union has extended sanctions for the illegal occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation until June 23, 2022.

The announcement was published on the European Council's website on Monday.

"Today, the EU Council of Ministers decided to extend the sanctions imposed in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation next year until June 23, 2022. Restrictive measures currently in place include a ban on imports into the EU of goods originating in Crimea or Sevastopol, infrastructure or financial investments and tourist services in Crimea and Sevastopol. The export of certain goods and technologies to Crimean companies, either for use in Crimea in the transport, telecommunications and energy sectors or for exploration, development or production of oil, gas or mineral resources, is also subject to EU restrictions”, - was informed in the statement.

The decision states that the EU does not recognize the illegal occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation and continues to condemn this violation of international law, according to the declaration of the EU High Representative for International Affairs and Security Policy on behalf of the EU 16 of 16 March 2020.
