Several events are planned in Kyiv on the Day of the Crimean Tatar National Flag, which is celebrated on June 26.

Vecherny Kyiv informs.

Before the occupation of Crimea, the Day of the Crimean Tatar national flag was celebrated in all cities, towns, and villages of the peninsula with large-scale events: concerts, children's contests, sports competitions.

At present, such measures have been limited as much as possible by the occupiers. This year, the mainland of Ukraine will celebrate this day in various ways to support the indigenous population of Ukrainian Crimea - the Crimean Tatars.

On June 15, an action was launched throughout the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government to collect signatures and wishes for the residents of Crimea, which Ukrainians write on a large flag. On June 26, the banner is planned to be launched on the peninsula using balloons from the administrative border of the peninsula.

The following solemn events will be held in the capital on June 26:

At 4:30 p.m. from the International Exhibition Center to Independence Square, the convoy will head to Independence Square.

At 5:30 p.m. Khreshchatyk will host a solemn procession with the large Crimean Tatar flag from the Bessarabian market to Independence Square.

At 4:30 p.m. at Independence Square, the competition for children's drawing "My flag" will begin.

A rally dedicated to the Crimean Tatar Flag Day will take place on Independence Square at 6 p.m.

What is known

  • For the first time, the Crimean Tatar flag was adopted by the first Kurultai of the Crimean Tatars in 1917, after the February Revolution. Restored by the fourth session of the fifth Kurultay - during Ukraine's independence, June 30, 1991.
  • On June 16, the large Crimean Tatar flag was unfurled in Lviv with messages to the inhabitants of occupied Crimea.
