"Military Commissioner of Sevastopol" reported on suspicion of conscription of Crimean people into the Russian army

Ukrainian law enforcement officers reported in absentia the suspicion of the "military commissar" of occupied Sevastopol "for violating the laws and customs of war" because of the call of the Crimean people to serve in the Russian army.

This was reported in the Prosecutor's Office of the ARC and Sevastopol.

It is noted that the suspect faces a sentence of eight to twelve years in prison.

"The suspect in the occupation of the peninsula held the position of commander of the battalion of logistics of the Coast Guard of the Ukrainian Navy. In 2014, after the occupation, he betrayed his oath of allegiance to the people of Ukraine and enlisted in the army of the occupying state. From April 2019, he held the position of "military commissar of the city of Sevastopol of the Republic of Crimea", directly implementing the policy of Russia and its occupation administration aimed at conducting illegal conscription campaigns of the civilian population of the peninsula to the Russian armed forces", - was informed in the statement.

According to the prosecutor's office, the suspect "developed a plan and organized 5 conscription campaigns for Crimeans" in occupied Sevastopol.

"These actions are a violation of the prohibition of the occupying power to force the civilian population to serve in its armed forces, provided for in Art. 51 of the IV Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949, ”the agency added.

The name of the suspect is not named in the department, his comments are absent.
