On May 18, Ukraine took an important step towards the de-occupation and reintegration of Crimea. The first part of the bills from the "Crimean Platform" package was registered in the parliament.

The People's Deputy and co-chairperson of the inter-factional association "Crimean Platform" Rustem Umerov told Suspilne Crimea.

Volodymyr Zelensky registered the bill on indigenous peoples as urgent.

"It is symbolic that the bill was registered on the Day of remembrance of the deportation of Crimean Tatars.

This law is very important for the Crimean Tatar people. Crimean Tatars have been waiting for this law for almost 30 years. I hope that before the inaugural Crimean Platform summit, this law will be approved by the parliament and signed by the head of state", - Umerov said.

He explained that indigenous peoples are those who have no other historical homeland outside Ukraine.

However, according to the People's Deputy, there is a gap in Ukrainian legislation concerning Article 92 of the Constitution. It states that the rights of indigenous peoples are determined exclusively by the laws of Ukraine, and no law defines them.

"When the occupier bans the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Ukraine at the highest level consolidates the rights and political institutions of the Crimean Tatars. This is a powerful signal for our people and the whole world - Ukraine and the Crimean Tatars are united today in the struggle for the return of our lands", - Umerov said.

He also initiated a bill to abolish the Free Economic Zone Crimea. He was registered in parliament.

The parliamentarian explained that the law of 2014 has long been inconsistent with modern realities. FEZ Crimea violates the rights of people who remained to live in Crimea after the beginning of the temporary occupation of the peninsula.

He added that the repeal of this law is the protection of Ukraine's national interests. The law not only does not help Ukrainian business but creates opportunities for shady schemes of working with the occupiers.

"We invalidate the licenses and special permits issued before the occupation. They cannot be renewed without re-registration. Such licenses are now valid. That is, based on permits and licenses issued before the occupation, it was possible to legally do business against the interests of Ukraine based on the law on FEZ", - the parliamentarian explained.

Among other proposals of the bill: a ban on the water supply to Crimea before its de-occupation and trade in the occupied territories.

Together with his colleagues, Umerov proposes to transfer to other laws all the positive aspects that were in the FEZ Crimea.

For example, the procedure for crossing the border or the abolition of mandatory tax payment and exemption from liability for late submission of tax returns.

"I am grateful to my colleagues from the Office of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, public organizations, and Crimean experts for their help in preparing the bill. This is one of the steps towards the de-occupation of Crimea. We work together every day to bring closer the day when the occupier will leave our lands", - he added.
