On UA: CRIMEA during the week will show a series of programs about the exile and return of Crimean Tatars

From 10 to 15 May at 17:20 on UA: CRIMEA will show a series of programs "History of the Crimean Tatars" - their project of exile and return. On May 18, on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide, all issues of the program will be shown.

The online broadcast of the TV channel can be watched on the website of the Public Crimea.

The project on the return of Crimean Tatars to Soviet and independent Ukraine was selected at the open competition "Create with the Suspilne".

"In this project, we want to tell the story of the exile and return of the Crimean Tatars. For me, these are very personal stories. Because my parents and grandparents returned to their native Crimea, fought in exile. After watching this cycle in Ukraine, I hope that more learn about the national movement of the Crimean Tatars, will better understand the emotions of those who were now again forced to leave their homes", - the chief editor of UA: CRIMEA Alim Abdulkhairov said.

The programs tell about two important stages in the formation of the national movement of the Crimean Tatars and their return from exile - to the Soviet and then independent Ukraine.

The TV project is dedicated to the life of Crimean Tatars in exile in the 1960s and the formation of a national movement, which resulted in thousands of rallies and the struggle for the right to live in Crimea. The films tell directly about the difficult path of returning Crimean Tatars to their homeland, the first steps in Crimea and the gradual revival of Crimean Tatar culture.

As the author of the program Fatima Osmanova explained, the series of films is built in such a way that an individual hero is a reflection of a certain period in the life of the whole nation. They witnessed the events of that time, who were active participants in the national movement in Uzbekistan and Crimea. Now the heroes of the project live mostly in the occupied Crimea, and some have moved to mainland Ukraine.

"The stories of the formation of the national movement and the first rallies in Moscow impress with their scale and courage of people who tirelessly fought for the right to live in their homeland. Zera Bekirova in those distant years was a journalist of the Crimean Tatar newspaper, which later became Each hero played an important role in the return and settlement of the people in their homeland", - she added.

On all regional TV channels of the Suspilne, the show of 6 episodes of the series "History of the Crimean Tatars" will start on May 11 at 18:45 (on Friday, May 14, at 18:40) and will run on weekdays.

What is known

  • "Create with Suspilne" is an open selection of creative projects for broadcast on regional TV channels UA: Public Broadcasting. In the last wave of selection, in the fall of 2020, Suspilne received more than 200 applications, which is twice as many as in 2019.
