OSCE "shocked" by information about the torture of Yesipenko arrested in occupied Crimea

The OSCE said it was "shocked" by information released by Radio Liberty's Vladislav Yesipenko, a freelancer arrested in Crimea, about the use of torture by the FSS.

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Theresa Ribeiro, wrote on Twitter.

"RFE / RL freelancer Vladislav Yesipenko, who was recently arrested in Crimea, said he was tortured. This is deeply shocking and unfortunate news, which is another disturbing example of the already appalling situation with freedom of expression and the safety of journalists", - Ribeiro wrote.

What is known

  • The US Embassy is concerned about the information about the torture of RFE / RL journalist Vladislav Yesipenko by Russian security forces in the occupied Crimea.
  • Lyudmila Denisova called on Russian ombudswoman Tetyana Moskalkova to investigate the facts of unjustified detention, further illegal detention and torture of Ukrainian journalist Vladyslav Yesipenko.
  • On the 23rd of March, Anton Naumlyuk, editor-in-chief of the Grata publication, reported that Ukrainian journalist Yesipenko had been tortured by electricity.
  • On 6 of April, the Supreme Court of Crimea remanded Ukrainian Radio Liberty journalist Vladyslav Yesypenko, who was detained by "employees" of the occupying FSS of Crimea, for two months. He also stated that he was tortured with electricity, forced to testify, and a grenade was thrown at him.
