US Embassy Expresses Concern About Torture of RFE / RL Freelance Journalist Vladislav Yesipenko in the Occupied Crimea.

"Concerned about reports of torture by Radio Liberty freelance journalist Vladislav Yesipenko by the Russian occupation authorities in Crimea to force him to confess. We call on him to be released and Russia to end repression against independent voices in Crimea", -  the embassy was informed on Twitter.

What is known

  • Lyudmila Denisova called on Russian ombudswoman Tetyana Moskalkova to investigate the facts of unjustified detention, further illegal detention and torture of Ukrainian journalist Vladyslav Yesypenko.
  • On the 23rd of April, Anton Naumliuk, editor-in-chief of the Grata publication, reported that Ukrainian journalist Yesipenko had been electrocuted.
  • On April 6, the Supreme Court of Crimea remanded Ukrainian Radio Liberty journalist Vladyslav Yesypenko, who was detained by "employees" of the occupying FSS of Crimea, for two months. He also made a statement that he was tortured with electricity, forced to testify, and a grenade was thrown at him.
