The relevant decision was made at a government meeting on April 7.

According to the document, the Ministry of Reintegration, together with the relevant authorities, the Mejlis, and the National Academy of Sciences, must develop a draft Strategy for the Development of the Crimean Tatar Language for 2022-2032 by August this year.

Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories, the initiator of the order Alexei Reznikov stressed that the concept is the foundation for work for 10 years on the development of the Crimean Tatar language, which is currently in critical condition.

"Russia's temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol has exacerbated these problems. The language must be saved. The Crimean Tatar language is a huge opportunity for Ukraine, which we are not yet fully aware of. The Crimean Tatar language is universal in its structure, and gives an opportunity to speak with our partners in one language, to develop relations with both Ankara and Baku", - he said.

The approach of the concept will allow language transmission between the generations of the Crimean Tatar indigenous people, to realize their language rights, to consolidate the Crimean Tatar language based on Latin graphics, to create opportunities for language acquisition by all comers.

"We see that there is great interest among Ukrainians, but this requires textbooks, dictionaries, online courses, and much more. We have foreseen all this and are already moving", - he said.

The concept also envisages the launch of a project on Crimean Tatar on Wikipedia, the Ministry of Reintegration has already turned to Google Translate and Duolingo, which provide an opportunity to promote the language.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stressed that the development of the Crimean Tatar language is an important part of the strategy of de-occupation of Crimea.

The concept is aimed at protecting the language and preserving the identity of the indigenous people when all conditions for development are nearly eliminated.

He said that it is important to understand that language development is not only strengthening ties with citizens, who are forced to live under temporary occupation, but also a clear signal to partners that the government sees the strategy and implements it.

The main criteria for assessing the development of the Crimean Tatar language are:

• the number of native speakers, in particular, the number of students studying in the Crimean Tatar language;
• the number of language experts, in particular, the number of people who attend language courses and study in relevant specialities at university;
• the number of printed, audiovisual products, texts on the Internet in Crimean Tatar;
• the number of original works of Crimean Tatar in various genres of art.
