Ukraine needs Crimea, not compensation for it - Kuleba
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba excludes the requirement of compensatory payments from Russia for the occupation of Crimea. This will damage the strategy that Ukraine insists on - the illegal occupation of its territory.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba stated this in an interview with Krym.Realii.
"Do you want us to recognize the illegal occupation, to ask for compensation for it? Or how? Like - pay money and everything will be fine? No! The strategy is completely different. We say that there is a temporary illegal occupation. Stressing that this is a temporary phenomenon, it is illegal and that it is an occupation under international law. This is the starting position with which we are working to end this occupation", - the minister said in an interview.
He noted that companies have the right to sue, but if to talk about the state itself, it is important for Ukraine that the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation in a broader status than in the status of the occupying state is in no way recognized in court proceedings.
"But our key task, my key task as a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to keep this framework: temporary illegal occupation", - Kuleba noted.
