Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office of the Autonomy, the occupation “investigator” was reported on suspicion of illegal intrusion into the house of the wife of deputy chairperson of the Crimean Tatar People’s Mejlis Akhtem Chiygoz and a search with the threat of violence (Part 2 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code).

On February 23, the Prosecutor’s Office of the ARC reported this on Facebook.

The investigation established that the suspect, being in the position of an investigator of the occupation department of the Main Investigation Department of Crimea, contributed to the implementation of the policy of the occupying state to persecute the pro-Ukrainian population of the peninsula.

What is known

  • On February 26, 2020, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea announced the suspicion of 25 people who persecuted the Deputy Speaker of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis Akhtem Chiygoz for allegedly organizing mass riots during a rally on February 26, 2014, near the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea.
  • According to the prosecutor of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Igor Ponochovny, "the occupation "criminal case on February 26" and the sentences received by pro-Ukrainian activists for the right to say “Crimea is Ukraine” are a clear example of the punitive machine of the occupying state".
