The Ministry of Reintegration of the Occupied Territories of Ukraine has published the draft concept for the development and promotion of the Crimean Tatar language as a living language. It will be submitted as a political proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers for the adoption of a relevant government act.

The press service of the Ministry of Reintegration reported this on January 27.

According to the head of the department Oleksiy Reznikov, numerous consultations with specialists were held in the process of working on the project.

“We tried to approach the Crimean Tatar language not only from the point of view of the need to preserve the unique heritage but as a living language that should be passed from generation to generation and solve communication problems in the modern world. The Ministry of Reintegration has already asked Google and Duolingo to integrate Crimean Tatar into these platforms", - he said.

The concept states that the primary goal of the project is to exclude the Crimean Tatar language from the list of languages that are under acute threat, according to the UNESCO classification consistently reducing the threat status to the safe one.

The implementation of the concept by 2032 will help increase the state of language security from the level of "critical threat" to the level of "endangered/vulnerable".

The document also emphasizes that the implementation of the initiative will generally have a positive impact on Ukraine's international image and authority in the world, will strengthen contacts with both the Turkic countries and the prominent Crimean Tatar diaspora.

"We are talking about huge opportunities for the entire Ukrainian nation, which are not fully realized. Today, 170 million people speak Turkic languages, including our strategic partners", - Reznikov said.

According to the report, the electronic consultation will last almost a month.  Written proposals and comments on the draft act are accepted until February 22, 2021, e-mail: yakymenko@mtot.gov.ua

The responsible person from the Ministry of Reintegration is Oleksiy Yuriyovych Tarabukin.
