Ukraine introduces preparatory courses for TLT (temporarily limited territory - ed.) entrants

In 2021, the Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine provides about 130 million UAH for preparatory courses and other programs for the reintegration of young people from the temporarily occupied territories.

It was announced on 21st of January at a press conference in Kyiv by the executive director of the public organization "Open Policy Foundation" Irina Zhdanova.

According to her, the relevant amendments to the law "On Higher Education" have already been adopted, and the budget of the Ministry of Reintegration includes about UAH 130 million for preparatory courses and other programs for the reintegration of young people from the temporarily occupied territories.

Preparatory courses this year will operate on the basis of seven educational institutions:

  • Donetsk National Technical University (Pokrovsk);
  • Vernadsky Tavriya National University (Kyiv);
  • Kherson State University;
  • Dahl East Ukrainian National University;
  • Luhansk Shevchenko National University;
  • Drahomanov National Pedagogical University;
  • Mariupol State University.

Starting in January, the preparatory courses will be held remotely, given the quarantine. From October, the Ministry of Reintegration plans to transfer them to full-time education. It is planned to increase the number of educational institutions on the basis of which the courses will be held.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Vitrenko, last year 397 people came through the educational centres "Crimea - Ukraine", "Donbas - Ukraine" - 1629 people.

What is known

  • Graduates from the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea have been applying to Ukrainian universities since 2016 under a simplified procedure. For this purpose educational centres "Donbas - Ukraine" and "Crimea - Ukraine" were created.
  • A separate quota is set for residents of the occupied territories, which is determined by the Ministry of Education.
