In the Ayan reservoir, which is a supplier of water for Simferopol, stocks remain for 8 days. Therefore, water will be supplied to the city from underground sources. At the same time, the occupying "chairman" of Crimea, Serhiy Aksyonov, stated that sites are currently being prepared for the construction of desalination plants in Yalta, Sudak, Kerch and Feodosia.

They reported about it during a meeting of "operational staff" on the water supply of the occupied Crimea on 7 of December.

According to the "head" of the company "Water of Crimea" Vladimir Bazhenov, water reserves in the Ayan reservoir remained for 8 days, while the occupiers want to have time to intercept water from wells.

According to him, a new section of the water supply system will be put into operation one of these days to supply artesian water to the southern part of the city.

Serhiy Aksonov said that the construction of desalination plants in the occupied Yalta, Sudak, Kerch and Feodosia is underway. As he added, first of all, construction of such installation will be carried out for water supply of Simferopol.

"We initially agreed that the pilot project, given the severity of the situation, will be carried out for Simferopol. But those who are now sitting on underground sources (cities and districts - ed.), Must have an alternative - desalination plant. Especially - those who are on the beach", - Aksonov said.

What is known

  • One of the main reservoirs of the occupied Crimea - Ayanske - has almost completely dried up.
  • In the occupied Crimea,  the drying area of reservoirs is now 45%, and the area of natural lakes has decreased a little less - by a quarter. Experts call the causes of dehydration not only the climatic factor - militarization, resettlement on the Russian peninsula and irrational use of water have negatively affected the water resources of the occupied Crimea.
