The US mission to the United Nations called on Russia to immediately end the violations in occupied Crimea, release all unjustly imprisoned citizens and return full control of the peninsula to Ukraine. Besides, US Ambassador to the OSCE James Gilmore during his speech at the Permanent Council in Vienna, said that Russia has a special repressive policy against Crimean Tatars living on the occupied peninsula and also called for an end to the persecution of Ukrainian citizens and Crimean Tatars in Crimea.

The United States' appeals stated in the message of the US Mission to the UN on Twitter and Gilmore's speech published on the website of the US Mission to the OSCE.

"The United States calls on Russia to immediately end violations in occupied Crimea, release all Ukrainians who were unjustly imprisoned for peaceful opposition, and return full control of the peninsula to Ukraine", - the United Nations Mission to the United Nations said in a statement.

They also stressed that the Russian occupation of Crimea has seriously undermined basic freedoms of speech, religion or belief, peaceful assembly and association, forcing many to flee the peninsula.

"We support Crimeans, civil society and human rights defenders working to protect these rights", - the Mission said.

They added that the United States is proud to co-sponsor and vote for a resolution on the human rights situation in Crimea.

"The situation there remains appalling, as the Russian occupation authorities use force and intimidation to suppress dissent and opposition", - the Mission concluded.

At the same time, US Ambassador to the OSCE James Gilmore also spoke in Vienna about the human rights situation in occupied Crimea.

According to him, Russia has a special repressive policy against the Crimean Tatars.

"Think of these brave Crimean Tatar activists who are being held in Russian prisons. Think of the nearly 200 children of these political prisoners who are growing up without parents. Such behaviour is being done on behalf of the Russian people. Are people in Russia happy that this harassment is happening? "We reiterate our call on Russia to stop abusing the Crimean Tatars, to release all Ukrainians whom it has unjustly imprisoned, and to end the harassment of civil society and attempts to silence the opposition", - Gilmore said.

He recalled the verdicts handed down by a court in Rostov-on-Don against three Crimeans - Rustem Emiruseinov, Arsen Abkhairov, Eskender Abdulganiev, who were accused of organizing and participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir, an organization banned in Russia.
