The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that an important decision had been made in the Scythian Gold case. The Amsterdam court granted Ukraine's request to remove the judge.

This was stated by Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a briefing.

The Minister noted that for a long time Ukraine has been fighting for the removal of a judge suspected of bias.

"Although this may be one of the usual procedural steps in the case, the fact that this judge was removed yesterday is a very important achievement. Unfortunately, the court has not yet determined when a new hearing will take place, but we at the Foreign Ministry continue to work to "The case was moving forward as soon as possible. We, not together with the Ministry of Justice, are making efforts for Ukraine's final victory in this case. With full respect for the Dutch Themis, Ukraine will resolutely defend its national interests", - he said.

What is known

  • The day before, the Amsterdam Court of Appeals granted Ukraine's request to remove one of the judges, whose impartiality was in doubt.
  • Exhibits of "Scythian gold" from the Crimean museums in 2014 at the time of the occupation of the semi-island were on display in Amsterdam. In December 2016, according to a court decision, they were to return to Ukraine. However, the museums of the occupied Crimea have challenged this in court.
