In the coming weeks, the European Union will approve the imposition of sanctions against individuals and companies involved in the construction of the Kerch Bridge, a decision on which was blocked by Cyprus.

Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak wrote about it on Twitter.

“EU sanctions on Belarus are still blocked but at least some progress as the sanctions on those responsible for the building of the Kerch bridge and those responsible for the cyber attacks on the Bundestag in 2015 will be green lighted in the coming weeks”, - he wrote.

What is known

  • In 2018, the European Union officially imposed sanctions on six Russian companies involved in the construction of the Kerch Bridge.
  • On September 3, it was reported that the situation with the EU's sanctions work is complicated by the fact that Cyprus is blocking the EU's work on sanctions against those responsible for the construction of the Kerch Bridge and cyber attacks against the Bundestag in 2015.
