Zelensky calls on the UN to create a platform for a de-occupation of Crimea and support for the updated resolution on human rights on the peninsula
Speaking at the general debate of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, President Volodymyr Zelensky called for participation in the creation of an international Crimean platform for the de-occupation of the peninsula and support for an updated resolution on the human rights situation in occupied Crimea.
Zelensky's speech was published on September 23 in the Office of the President.
"What would be the feelings of the founders of the UN if they learned that 75 years later there would be a war in the center of Europe? That human rights are brutally violated in Crimea, Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars are persecuted, violates the security balance of the Black Sea region", - the president said in his statement.
According to him, only the de-occupation of Crimea and Donbass "heals the wound" in the center of Europe, which is "bleeding".
"The most important thing is that the Crimea and Donbass issues should not become elements of the usual landscape, where only reports, thematic meetings and protocol statements on the anniversary of the occupation will be considered a sufficient form of international reaction. On the contrary, as long as the wound in central Europe bleeds, the whole world will feel pain. And the only recipe for effective treatment is only the de-occupation of Crimea and Donbass", - the president said.
According to the OP, the President also called for support for the updated resolution "The situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine", which will be submitted to the General Assembly by the end of this year.
"Taking this opportunity, I would like to invite our friends to participate in the creation of an international Crimean platform for joint action to protect the rights of Crimeans and the de-occupation of the peninsula", - Zelensky said.
At the same time, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly called for not forgetting the occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol and once again expressed support for Ukraine's territorial integrity.
