The Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine reported that the human rights situation at the Chaplynka checkpoint remains critical, despite repairs and arrangements at all checkpoints on the administrative border between occupied Crimea and Kherson region.  Thus, the situation with the observance of citizens' rights has significantly improved at the Kalanchak and Chongar checkpoints.

This was discussed during a meeting between the representative of the Commissioner for Respect for the Rights of Residents of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Irina Verigina and the head of the Kherson Regional State Administration Yuriy Gusev, the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine reported on Facebook.

It is noted that the water used at checkpoints does not have a quality certificate, and there are no nursing rooms.

At the same time, according to Verigina, after carrying out repair works and arrangements of checkpoints the situation with observance of the rights of citizens considerably improved.

"Checkpoints are equipped to all modern standards. Asphalt pavement, sidewalks have gentle descents and crossings, which fully provide unimpeded access to buildings for people with disabilities and young children. On the street and on the premises there are toilets, as well as separate toilets for people with disabilities", -Irina Verigina reported.

However, the improvements concern only Kalanchak and Chongar checkpoints, and the situation at Chaplynka remains critical.

Also, Verigina drew attention to the need to create conditions in the service areas in front of the checkpoint, so that people crossing the administrative border could be tested for COVID-19, because of the global pandemic, she said, it will greatly simplify and speed up the detection of patients on coronavirus and will provide them with timely qualified medical care.
