Lenur Temirov, a participant in the Tokyo Olympics, a master of sports of Ukraine of international class in Greco-Roman wrestling, a Crimean Tatar, told about the training and life in Crimea.

How do you morally adjust to the fight at the Olympics?

- Every athlete has his own "chips" of how to overcome anxiety, how not to break. Personally, I try to train to the fullest, I try to train as I trained for all my previous championships, that is, based on my own experience, and in terms of health, now I am ready, confident, and I do not have a sense of excitement yet.

Are you the first Crimean Tatar to represent Ukraine at the Olympic Games for the second time, how do you feel?

- It is a great honour for me to represent my people in the international arena, in particular at the Olympic Games. I think everything will work out for me and I will bring great joy to my people, relatives and all those who believe in me.

This is not your first time at the Olympics, what conclusions did you draw for yourself, how did you analyze your struggle?

- Those moments are very clear, especially in terms of preparation then and now. I think it's all an experience.

Lenure, tell us about your day at the Olympic Reserve?

- At 8 am we have a line-up and are already feeling well or charging or walking, when. The main training processes start at 11, for example, at 11 in the morning there may be a "carpet" (Training on the carpet - ed.), And in the evening there will be a general physical training for an hour and a half or vice versa - by 11 I ran about 5 kilometres 6, and then I follow the program of squeezing, pulling up on the crossbar. This is about the routine of my day.

Is this training schedule different from the one in Crimea?

- Training processes differ for the reason that the house mode remains at home, and here I receive the basic loading at meetings. At home I keep fit, I also have about two workouts during the day, jogging or exercising. Of course, there are three pieces of training - this is when we have long periods of rest between general meetings. And in the Crimea, I can do general physical training, there and mountains, and the sea, jogging, and in a gym on a carpet we constantly with guys spend sparring. In general, we do not stop, we work, the specifics of training are different.

How long have you been involved in Greco-Roman wrestling?

- I have been fighting since I was 6 years old. My older brother brought me to the gym, and my father kept telling me to go to sports to be in good shape, in good health, and sports bring me up as a person. My brother was engaged for only 4 years, then went to serve in the army, never returned to sports, but I was delayed. Sport for me is not a hobby, it is my job that requires daily effort. I like it.

- I am 31 now, that is, I have been in sports for 25 years. During all this time, for only three years, I did not go to international arenas, but this did not cause me to leave the sport and not to train. On the contrary, I practised intensively at home. I would regret all my life that I left the sport, I would constantly think "what would happen if I…". At this time I met my future wife. Now I have a son and a daughter. I had a career leap in 2018, that's when I won bronze at the World Cup, then there were other achievements, and thoughts of leaving the professional sport faded into the background. In general, I believe that all those who play sports for so long professionally, do not think to leave it, because they live it, and continue to do.

Would you like your son to follow your path and become a fighter?

- The most important thing for me is that my son finds his way in life and does what he likes, what he likes. Of course, I would like him to continue and adapt my skills and engage in Greco-Roman wrestling, but whatever I like will be his best choice for me.

How important is family support to you?

- Although the family is in Crimea, it is always there as a particle and helps in difficult moments, at serious starts. They support me. I always have their photos with me, we keep in touch every day. Memories are a talisman for me, especially when I travel for a long time, miss them, and start remembering my days together.

Who is your coach, his role in your life?

- Ismet Saliev is my first coach, he is like a father to me. He always knows what to say, how to cheer. His best character trait is perseverance! There are moments when it is very difficult for me when I think that everything I can't do, I can't stand, there is always a coach who will tell me what to do and how to do it, he will help, he always says: “I know, you have 10 more -15% energy, that's enough to make a victorious leap".

The growth of Greco-Roman wrestling in Ukraine, how has it changed over the past 5 years?

- I can answer yes, every year, with every era, both the development of wrestling and other sports, it is certainly present, and it makes me very happy. There is a lot of competition among athletes, which allows you to always keep yourself in shape, not to give up. I would add that today the sport is not very popular, even Greco-Roman wrestling - I see for myself that its development and level is getting better and better.

After the occupation of the Crimean peninsula, did you receive offers from the occupiers to support Russia? Are there any friends who have supported such proposals?

- No, I didn't receive it, because I continued to play for Ukraine. At that time, my sports career was, in fact, coming to an end. Then I had a choice: to continue or to leave the sport. I will add that since 2002 I have been a member of the Ukrainian national team and continue to be in it.

Among my friends, there are those who support Russia, but I can't say anything about it, we both talked and we talk, I don't want to confuse sports with politics. Sport is one big nation, if you are an athlete, then you remain one. It's my choice and everyone's choice. I'm not going to judge anyone.

Do you help financially develop the Greco-Roman struggle in Crimea?

- I help my brothers and friends when I have the opportunity, because we all go together all the time, and we also need finances for that, for example, for trips. Here the coach personally helps when there is a financial problem. As an older brother, I can help them to be calm and not have problems because there is always a time when you start thinking about whether to continue your sports career, whether to leave sports and do something else.

What do you plan to do at the end of your career? Maybe it will be a coaching activity?

- I am an old athlete, but now I don't want to think about the future. I do not like to think ahead. Of course, 100% of the plans are to take the path of coaching to pass on their experience to young people, the younger generation, but when that will happen - I don't know, I think young people will tell me.
