UNESCO has included the traditional Crimean Tatar ornament "Ornek" in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. According to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine considers this a significant event and a victory.

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter.

"I congratulate the Crimean Tatar people and the whole of Ukraine on their landmark victory. UNESCO has included the traditional Crimean Tatar ornament" ornek "in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a worthy recognition of the beauty of Ukraine's cultural mosaic", - Zelensky wrote.

Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko stressed that the culture of Crimea is unique and must be preserved.

Örnek is a traditional ornament in the decorative and applied arts of the Crimean Tatars. Various household and cult objects were decorated with ornaments: clothes, fabrics, jewelry, furniture, architectural objects, tombstones.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba also called this event significant for Ukraine.

Ornek is one of the oldest cultural achievements of the Crimean Tatar people. This is a unique phenomenon of world culture, connected by its theme, symbolism with the ancient history of Crimea, with all the civilizations that have passed through this land: Scythian, Ancient, Byzantine, Turkic.

The decorative art of the Crimean Tatars reached its peak during the Crimean Khanate from the second half of the 15th century. until the end of the XVIII century. The ornamental art of the Crimean Tatars originated, went through a long and difficult path of synthesis, received its development and continues to develop.

The ornament is used as an element of decor of national clothes, shoes, hats, as well as in jewelry, ceramic and metal utensils, wood products, home appliances, furniture, carpets.

In February 2018, it was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ukraine.

The development of the nomination dossier "Ornek - Crimean Tatar ornament" was a long-term initiative of the Crimean Tatar public organization "Alem". According to the head of the NGO "Alem" Esma Adzhieva, the final decision to include the Crimean Tatar ornament in the list of intangible heritage of mankind took place at the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee at UNESCO headquarters.

Hutsul pottery and Petrykivka paintings have also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Ukraine is working to include Ukrainian borscht in the UNESCO list.
