Dim Amor, an Israeli director with Ukrainian roots, has begun work on a play based on actual events.

Dim Amor, originally from the Sumy region, recreates the story of a girl named Faride, who saved dozens of Jewish children during the Great Patriotic War.

During the Holocaust, Crimean Jews brought their children to Faride for rescue. A Muslim woman of Crimean Tatar origin saved children. She risked her own life and also experienced the repression of the Stalinist regime.

“It will be a theatre piece, not a film. I am an ardent Crimean activist and chairperson of the Israeli Actors Association. We are trying to do everything possible to prevent Russian actors from performing on the temporarily occupied peninsula, and some singers, such as Kirkorov and Dima Bilan, have already cancelled their concerts in Israel. Because of my activity towards Crimea, Crimean Tatars began to turn to me and told me an interesting story about the woman who later became the main character in my play”, - Amor said.

The director shared his memories of a gift from his friend, which later gave rise to the idea of staging a play.

“When my friend went to Kyiv on business, he saw a book about Faride there. He remembered that I had told him the story about this woman and bought the book for me. I’d been waiting for the gift for almost six months”, - he said.

Dim Amor called the author and agreed to stage the play without infringing the copyright, to which he agreed.

“That’s how the idea was born”, - the director said.

The subtitles will be translated into Russian and English, and the original play will be in Hebrew. It is filled with Ukrainian motifs and Crimean Tatar songs.

“In general, we really want to bring the play to Kyiv, but because of the pandemic, we don’t know how it will be”, - he explained to Suspilne Crimea.

Rehearsals begin next month because the director is actively translating the book from Ukrainian into Hebrew.

“This story will be in Hebrew, and, unfortunately, we will not have Crimean Tatars, but we ordered Crimean Tatar national costumes in Ukraine”, - said the chairperson of the Israeli Actors Association.

Dim Amor could not find the form of Nazi Germany and Soviet soldiers. According to the story, the Nazis tortured Faride, and then the Soviet authorities accused her of collaborating with the Nazi authorities, which led to her repression.

According to the director, the main features of the heroine are love and compassion.

"It's very difficult for a 20-year-old actress who plays Faride to play the mother of someone else's children. My goal is to show that humanity has no nation", - Dim Amor explained.
