During the spring and summer of 2021, the Russian Federation increased its military contingent in occupied Crimea.

This was stated by the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine - Kirill Budanov.

He called the Crimean peninsula a "militaristic fortress of Russia." Budanov has previously said that Russia uses Crimea as a base to ensure a military presence in Syria.

Military expert Oleg Zhdanov, in a comment to the Public Crimea, noted that the peninsula has a favourable geopolitical location, which allows the occupiers to influence the countries of the Black Sea and Mediterranean region.

"The peninsula, as a starting point for missile systems, both strategic and operational-tactical, and tactical is an ideal place", - Oleg Zhdanov said.

"Imagine that as there are missile weapons on the peninsula, the medium-range missiles that the Russian Federation is now intensively trying to develop are 5.5 thousand kilometres, here is the peninsula as a starting point for missile systems, both strategic and operational. tactical, and tactical is the perfect place".

According to Andrei Klimenko, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Maidan Supervisory Board, in 2015-2017, exactly 100 naval-based cruise missiles were fired from Russian warships, including submarines, in Syria.

"56 of them were released from surface ships and submarines of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, these are the latest ships and submarines that were relocated to Sevastopol after the occupation of Crimea".

According to military expert Oleg Zhdanov, one of the reasons for the increase in the military on the territory of the occupied peninsula was the conduct of naval exercises "SeaBreeze" 2021.

"21,000 servicemen were transferred, under the pretext that they would provide assistance to local residents in eliminating the consequences of the flood", - a military expert said.

"During the exercises, the issues of the military-landing operation were worked out, and the Russian Federation, apparently the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of Russia, concluded that there were not enough forces and means to defend the peninsula. And so the decision was made, I will remind you that immediately after the SeaBreeze 2021 exercise, 21,000 servicemen were transferred, under the pretext that they would help the locals to eliminate the effects of the flood".

The occupation authorities plan not only to increase the military in Crimea but also to build a logistics centre for the Russian Defense Ministry. The cost of such a centre will cost the occupying country 17 billion rubles, which is more than 6 billion hryvnias.

"I do not think it will be profitable. The fact is that the Crimean peninsula for Russia is an island, and the only connection with mainland Russia is the Crimean bridge, which can not withstand the load. They want to take root, they want to militarize as much as possible, so that there is no question of withdrawing Russian troops from the peninsula, so they are ready to spend such a lot of money and build a logistics centre there. Although there is no logic here at all", - Zhdanov said.

According to political scientist Volodymyr Tsibulko, Ukraine has enough diplomatic leverage to stop Russian aggression on the territory of the occupied Crimea, including the illegal construction of the Kerch Bridge.

"First, Ukrainian ports can no longer accept Namax-class vessels, which means that trade through Ukrainian ports is limited, and large losses, especially metallurgical products, coal, there are also good mechanisms for ships on international platforms, starting from Stockholm Arbitration, and everything else possible, and international maritime law provides Ukraine with a lot of opportunities", - Tsibulko said.

Andriy Klymenko, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Square's supervisory board, told Public journalists that in order to stop Russia's aggressive policy, it is necessary to act in several directions.

"This can be done theoretically, through very strong pressure, military, military-diplomatic, diplomatic-legal, sanctions".

International lawyer Volodymyr Vasylenko told Suspilne that in order to solve the problem of aggressive occupation of Ukrainian territories by the Russian Federation, it is necessary to create a body that would centrally analyze the situation related to Russia's armed aggression.

"Collection and generalization of all events ... To formally present an official note to the Russian Federation", - Volodymyr Vasylenko said.

"By collecting and summarizing all the events, in order to formulate a consolidated claim to Russia, which would define the position of Ukraine, all the facts were set out, analyzed, defined forms of responsibility of Russia, in order to formulate a consolidated claim. Formally submit a formal note to the Russian Federation".
