Suspilne Crimea, together with Crimean Solidarity, publishes letters from Crimean political prisoners illegally detained by Russia every Friday. Fifth letter from public activist Shaban Umerov.

Congratulations to the people of Ukraine, I wish you all the best! I, a prisoner of the Kremlin, Umerov Shaban Izetovich, was born in the Uzbek SSR, Tashkent region, Angren, at one time in 1944, where all my people were deported from the Crimea by the Soviet repressive machine, branding the people as "traitors".

For many years, while in deportation, Crimean Muslims in a peaceful struggle sought to return home, proving that we are not traitors, and in 1986, having obtained permission, the people began to return, including me, in 1990 after serving in the army even than the Soviet, I immediately came to the Crimea.

Then followed the collapse of the USSR, which probably pleased many peoples, including Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar. By fate, Crimea joined Ukraine. Yes, all this happened when we left home in Central Asia and came to the historic homeland on bare ground. Money turned into just paper, but my people did not despair, worked and settled down. I, together with my people, moved in the direction of living and creating together with the people who lived in Crimea at that time.

In 1992, I met my future wife and without delay, we started a family. In 1993 we had a son, and then two daughters: in 1996 - the eldest daughter and in 2004 the youngest was born. We lived first in Pionersky, then moved to the village of Urozhayne, Simferopol region, and later I bought a plot in Kamensky dachas, where they built a house with all the conditions.

All this time there were no problems. When I came to the Crimea, as a Muslim, I began to study my religion and live in accordance with it, and since religion encouraged me to maintain ties with relatives and neighbours, I led an active lifestyle in society. If people had problems, he tried to help solve them with them.

In general, life went its own way. While living in Kamianka, I met many people and became friends with them. They were also active people in society. I would like to describe one of the examples of how we held holidays for children in this region and children of different nationalities came to this holiday, and no one made a difference between them, there were attractions, competitions, free food, drinks, gifts given to children - ie. everyone was satisfied.

But in 2014, as you know, something happened that our people were wary of in anticipation of trouble. Crimea was occupied by Russia, and the expectation of trouble did not disappoint us, all the peace that was present in the Ukrainian Crimea, collapsed with the arrival of Russia. Yes, I think it brought a lot of trouble in Ukraine as well. But what happened happened. Crimea is occupied by the Russian Federation and those who took an active lifestyle today are in prisons and camps in the Russian Federation.

While under investigation in the Crimea, in the Simferopol pre-trial detention centre - I mostly sat with Russian-speakers, and I asked them questions. Well, as in the Russian Crimea, many could see regret that the Crimea is occupied by Russia, many did not expect such a development. But we, the Crimean Muslims, understood what this would lead to as far back as 1783, then 1944, and this is a brief description, and here is 2014. The situation of political prisoners in prisons is different: someone has health problems. But I want to assure the Ukrainian people that everyone is holding on bravely in anticipation that God has made lies disappear when the truth comes. And eventually everything will change for the better by the will of the Lord of the worlds. Goodbye to the Ukrainian people and all the best!
